Biography

During Samantha Gorman’s undergraduate studies she was a research assistant in the Smith Lab at the University of California, Santa Cruz. During her tenure, she conducted research on the neurotoxic effects of manganese in animal models and the neurodevelopmental effects of co-exposure to lead and manganese in children. After graduation, she joined a molecular diagnostic company where she honed her molecular biology skills and took the lead on several projects, including developing a line of RT-qPCR master mixes and quality control protocols for products. 

Samantha joined the Ultrasound Elasticity and Imaging Lab as a research assistant in June 2022. She is currently working with the Blood Brain Barrier group where she is conducting research on neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s. Samantha is assisting with the upkeep of transgenic mouse lines and processing samples for fluorescence imaging.
