Biography

Nikolas grew up in Orestiada, Greece, and earned a Diploma (Integrated M.Eng.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He spent a semester at Sorbonne Université (Paris VI) as an Erasmus+ exchange student. In parallel to his engineering studies, he completed a Minor in Psychology at Deree - The American College of Greece as a Stavros Niarchos Foundation scholar. While at Deree, he was also awarded a Latsis Foundation scholarship to attend Harvard Summer School. Nikolas conducted his Master's thesis at NTUA in the BioSim lab, where he developed a machine learning pipeline for the functional assessment of retinal models under the supervision of Prof. Konstantina Nikita. He continued as a graduate research assistant in BioSim after graduation, studying explainable deep learning models for the assessment of carotid plaque using ultrasound imaging. Nikolas joined UEIL in the fall of 2022 as a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University. His research interests include transcranial focused ultrasound neuromodulation and functional ultrasound imaging.
