Biography

Craig A. Macsemchuk is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering with a multidisciplinary background in therapeutic ultrasound, medical imaging, and applied engineering. His research focuses on focused ultrasound-mediated blood-brain barrier opening, using MRI, PET, and ultrasound imaging to enable and monitor targeted neurotherapies in vivo.

He holds a MASc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto, where he developed image analysis tools and robotic platforms for MRI-guided focused ultrasound fetal therapy. He has contributed to translational research in preclinical, veterinary, and clinical environments, and contributed to the development of open-source MRI thermometry software for use with major clinical scanner platforms.

Craig previously worked as an electrical engineer and software developer at Radialis Medical, where he contributed to the development of an FDA approved organ-specific positron emission tomography (PET) system for breast cancer detection. His work included embedded system design, real-time data processing, and mixed-signal hardware development for clinical imaging applications.

Before entering graduate studies, Craig worked as a petroleum mechanic serving remote communities in the far north and in the solar power industry. He also held hands-on roles in construction project management, industrial data networks, and field service engineering.
