Biography

Since 2017, Yaocai Huang has been engaged in biomedical ultrasound and acoustic imaging research. His master's research focused on the development of ultrasound capsule endoscopy for minimally invasive gastrointestinal imaging. During his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan under the supervision of Prof. Xueding Wang, he developed ionizing radiation acoustic imaging (iRAI) technologies for mapping radiation dose in vivo and endoscopic photoacoustic imaging catheter for assessing gastrointestinal inflammation and fibrosis. His work involved imaging system development, acoustic modeling, image reconstruction, and experimental validation, advancing iRAI toward real-time radiotherapy dosimetry and early clinical translation. Since July 2026, he has been a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University, where he works under the supervision of Prof. Elisa Konofagou. His current research focuses on therapeutic focused ultrasound for blood-brain barrier opening and harmonic motion imaging (HMI).
